Jusco cure for ailing hospital

Jamshedpur, Oct. 28: The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital (MGMH) will soon be revamped, as the state government has invited a proposal from the Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company (Jusco) ? a subsidiary of Tata Steel ? for its maintenance.

According to sources, Jusco is interest in the project. They added that the company has initiated talks with the state government.

Sources said Jusco would look after the maintenance of water supply, electricity and building of the MGMH.

Jusco managing director Sanjeev Paul said the state health ministry and principal of the MGMH asked for a proposal about the hospital?s maintenance.

He said the company was interested in the project provided the government grants permission. Paul added that Jusco was also doing the construction work for the National Institute of Technology (NIT).

MGMH superintendent A.K. Verma said the decision rests with state government. ?Jusco is interested in the project, which would involve maintenance of water supply, electricity and building,? he said. He, however, refused to comment about the final decision.

Sources said the ailing condition of the hospital is very much evident.

?The building is in a bad shape. The Rs 10-crore project that the state government had earmarked for modernisation and purchase of equipment still now awaits allocation,? they added.

Only a part of the fund was spent on mosaic flooring and some repair in the hospital, sources said. Bottlenecks in various governments have aggravated the problems of the hospital, said sources.

?But things will take a turn for the better after Jusco takes over. They have adequate expertise and manpower to revamp the hospital,? they added.
