Jamshedpur, Oct. 25: After a prolonged legal battle, police have finally succeeded in taking dreaded criminal Akhilesh Singh into a 24-hour police remand from 3 pm today.
The court of chief judicial magistrate, A.K. Chaturvedi, granted permission for the remand after the police sought for it the second time in 10 days.
The police remand was granted in connection with the Arms Act case against Akhilesh Singh registered with the Sidhgora police station on October 9.
On October 19, the court of chief judicial magistrate, Jamshedpur, had granted the Sidhgora police a two-day police remand.
Sidhgora officer-in-charge Sakaldev Ram, who is also the investigating officer of the said Arms Act case, received the police remand order from the court but had gone to his native place to perform his father?s shradh. Last week?s Durga puja celebrations also left the police engaged. As a result, the police failed to take Akhilesh Singh in police remand.
On Sunday, the Sidhgora officer-in-charge tried to take him in police remand but as the remand period expired by October 23, Akhilesh Singh refused to budge.
As the accused refused to comply, explaining that the time for remand had already been over, the Sidhgora officer-in-charge today submitted another petition, requesting the court to grant the permission.
