Study Abroad

I am going to join a college with mass communication as my honours subject. I want to go to the US to do a masters in the subject. How do I go about it? Is it possible for me to get a full scholarship?

Madhura

For a masters degree in mass communication, clearing TOEFL is a must. You have to take the test in keeping with the dates of the colleges you will be applying to. Not all places will ask for GRE scores. But in that case be prepared to sit for their internal admission tests which are conducted on campus.

Check out the university websites to learn about their requirements and deadlines. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee of getting a full scholarship as most of these places offer only partial funding. However, getting educational loans has become quite easy nowadays. A student can now apply for loans, which he or she is allowed to repay once employed. So one can be assured of not having to rely entirely on one?s parents.

Some of the well-known institutes for studying mass communication in the US would be Boston University, Columbia University, Arizona State University etc. For useful links you can visit www.univsource.com.

I am a student of Golden Regency Institute, a hotel management institute in Haldia. After completing my advance diploma in hotel management, my institute will send me to Australia to get a higher degree. However, I cannot afford the expense of this foreign trip. Please tell me how to get help from the International Students? Federation. Will I get a scholarship if I have a good result in the advanced diploma? Can I do any part-time/ full-time job there to sustain my expenses while studying? Are there any financial support group or organisation in India or Australia that can help me?

Even if you do not manage to get a scholarship for your course of study, you can always opt for a bank loan. Nowadays, most financial institutions grant educational loans that the student can start repaying once he or she is suitably employed. This ensures that the pressure is lifted from the parents? shoulders. The majority of international students in Australia are full-fee paying students. With only a limited number of scholarships available for international students there is intense competition for these awards.

However, you can always check out the scholarships database on the site studyinaustralia.gov.au for a comprehensive guide to all the institutions providing scholarships. It is indeed possible to do part-time jobs to try and cover part of your expenses. The list of famous trusts/foundations providing scholarships for study in India and abroad is available on educationinfoindia.com. Candidates can write directly to these trusts to get more details about the scholarships.
