Forming traffic zones proved futile
ved. Ranchi was to be divided into different zones to organise the currently-mismanaged traffic network.
The decision was taken after a recommendation from the deputy superintendent of police (traffic), who has been under the media?s scanner for the mismanaged flow of vehicles on city roads.
Each zone was to have one constable with a motorcycle, revolver and wireless set. However, no such constables are visible on the city roads today.

High and dry
d like to ask the excise department officials if the second day of every month is really a dry day in the state. If it is, then why are most liquor shops in the state capital open on these days. It was shocking to see wine being sold on Gandhi Jayanti. The BJP repeats its commitments towards Gandhi?s dreams, but alcohol is sold in the state on his birth anniversary.

Motorcycle thefts
es seems to be on the rise in the state capital and robbers, after an initial lull of a couple of months, are making their presence felt in the city. Of late, it has become dangerous for residents of the city to venture out on the roads at night. Police claim that they have increased patrols at night but this does not seem to be having any effect. I would like to request the concerned officials to stop turning a blind eye towards this problem and take actions to curb it.

Taxing issue
ephone bills, which includes a fixed rent of Rs 360 (applicable for urban Jamshedpur). Tax levied on fixed rent appears to be unjustified as the BSNL can charge service tax only on the value of service provided by them.

Informative article
ished in ?The search of innocence? (September 26) was informative and it was evident that a lot of time had been devoted to the article. Now, kids mature much faster than before. Barriers of age does not hold good today.
