Akhilesh brought to court

Jamshedpur, Oct. 11: Undertrial accused Akhilesh Singh was today produced before the court of first class judicial magistrate S.N. Sikdhar in connection with murder of jailer Uma Shanker Pandey.

After being brought to the court premises amid high security arrangements, the accused was briskly taken away from the court.

He was in the court of the first class judicial magistrate for about 20 minutes before being pushed back into the special prison van that brought him to court.

The next date for his appearance is November 26. Security arrangements had been beefed up after Akhilesh Singh fled from judicial custody while being escorted back to the Sakchi jail in January 2002.

It was after he had fled judicial custody that he shot Uma Shanker Pandey.

Amid tight police arrangements, scores of supporters of the goon had gathered on the court premises long before he was brought there. The supporters, particularly from Sidhgora and Baridih locality, shouted slogans at top of their voices in favour of the undertrial.

Among those present while the undertrial was being escorted was his father Chandra Gupta Singh, who is also the general secretary of Jharkhand Police Association. The petition of district police seeking seven days police remand for Akhilesh Singh ran into rough weather as the court of chief judicial magistrate, A.K. Chaturvedy refused to entertain the petitioner.
