New Delhi, Sept. 28: The Union cabinet is likely to consider a proposal to amend norms of newspaper registration after the publication of the International Herald Tribune from Hyderabad pointed to what is being seen in official circles as a loophole in the rules, reports our special correspondent.

Sources said the cabinet is likely to consider amending the Press Registration Act and empower the government to check newspaper titles.

The controversy erupted after the International Herald Tribune was printed from the Deccan Chronicle press in Hyderabad.

I&B officials say the publication violated rules that do not allow reprinting of foreign newspapers in India.
