Bangalore: Junior national champion Anand Pawar has won the prestigious Wimbledon junior (under-19) badminton championship defeating Scottish No.1 Callum Menzies in straight games.

In the final on Sunday, Anand defeated Menzies 15-4, 15-2 at the Wimbledon Squash and Badminton Club in London, according to information received here.

Earlier, Anand was given a scare in the semi-finals by the English No. 2 Andrew Ellis before he prevailed 15-6, 10-5, 15-2.

One of the popular junior tournaments in Europe, all top players from the continent participate in the Wimbledon junior event.

Meanwhile, in the under-19 girls? singles, India?s Gayatri Vartak, the top under-16 shuttler in the country, finished runner-up, losing to Linda Sloan of Scotland.
