Mumbai: Maharashtra lifters had a field day breaking three national records on the opening day of the junior and sub-junior national weightlifting championship at the Andheri Sports Complex on Saturday.

Maharashtra’s Sukhen Dey set a new national record in 51 kg (boys) snatch when he lifted 85 kg. In the clean and jerk, Dey again set a new national record with 105 kg bettering the previous record of 102.1 kg.

Dey once again found himself on the podium in the total category with a 190kg lift, bettering the previous national record of 182.5 kg in the name of Rajashekar set in 2002. (PTI)
