Alokendu Lahiri joins Sporting Union

Alokendu Lahiri, Charanjit Singh and Abhijit Ganguly switched allegiance to Sporting Union in the CAB inter-club transfers on Thursday. All three were with Tollyunge Agragami last season. A total of 113 players sought transfers while 25 withdrew.

Meanwhile, CAB will begin their campaign in the J.P. Atroi one-day meet in Chandigarh on September 27.

“We’ve received a fax from the tournament organisers in this regard. But it didn’t say who would be our opponents,” a CAB official said on Thursday.

The team will leave the city on September 23.

Super Six

With the last set of CFL Super Division matches coming to an end on Friday, the next phase of the tournament — battle for title in the Super Six is likely to kick off after the India-Japan World Cup qualifier slated for Wednesday.

It has been learnt from the IFA sources, the tentative date has been fixed at Friday or Saturday. Incidentally, the derby clash between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan will be held on Saturday.

Rugby meet

The Calcutta Police Sergeants’ Institute will organise a seven-a-side Jayanandan Singh Memorial all-India rugby meet on Sunday and Monday.

Altogether 14 teams, including one each from Indian Army and the British High Commission will be seen in action in the meet. The local participants include Calcutta Classic, Future Hope and CC&FC.

Chennai win

Chennai Cheetahs beat Calcutta Police while Bombay Gymkhana whipped hosts CC&FC in the semi-finals of the All India and South Asia rugby meet on Thursday. Final will be played on Saturday.

Peak scaled

A six-member expedition team of Howrah District Mountaineers and Trekkers' Association has recently scaled Chandrabhaga-13 (20,230 feet) at Dhaka glacier, Himachal Pradesh. The team comprises Subrata Banerjee, Swaraj Ghosh, Sanjoy Ghosh, Ajoy Mondal, Arindam Mukherjee and Malay Mukherjee.
