DNA tests for jawans

Calcutta, Aug. 29: The army has ordered DNA tests for the Assam Rifles jawans accused of raping and killing Thangjam Manorama after her arrest on charges of having militant links, says a staff reporter.

Army spokesman Wing Commander S.. Mukherjee said at the Eastern Command headquarters today that the Manipur government had been requested to get the tests done expeditiously. “The army has done so to ensure total transparency and early disposition of justice.”

The decision to ask all the jawans involved in the case to undergo DNA tests was taken days after the Central Forensic Science Laboratory here found traces of semen on a garment Manorama was wearing when she died.
