Good win for Debanjan

Calcutta: Debanjan Das of Jadavpur Vidyapith shocked second seed Rajib Dhar, the Guwahati leg winner, in the seventh round of The Telegraph Schools’ Chess Championship at Gorky Sadan on Thursday.

Minhazuddin Ahmed Sagar of Bangladesh, meanwhile, emerged the sole leader with seven points at the end of this round.

Eleven-year-old Bitan Banerjee continued his impressive run as he held Soumya Thakurta, the seventh seed, of St James School in a game of fluctuating fortunes.

On the fourth board, Mohammad Imran Ali of Bangladesh beat Sourav Chakraborti of St James in just 24 moves.

Padmini Rout of Orissa held 10th seed Souvik Chakraborty of Narmada HS in 27 moves.
