Clinic chief critical

The condition of Somnath Chatterjee, chief executive officer of Suraksha hospital, continued to be grim on Thursday, a day after he was beaten up by a mob. Chatterjee was injured in his spine and kidneys.

A medical board overseeing his treatment has advised him complete rest, said Chirantan Bose, medical superintendent of the hospital.

Trouble broke out at the Salt Lake clinic on Wednesday after the death of eight-year-old Antarleena, niece of Trinamul Congress MLA Jyotipriya Mallick. On Thursday, Mallick lodged a complaint with home secretary Amit Kiran Deb, alleging that the hospital had become a criminals’ den.
