Cong support for Soren cause

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) pledged support for Union coal minister Sibu Soren and challenged the criminal proceedings against the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief in the 1975 Chirudih massacre case.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, JPCC spokesperson Shailendra Sinha said the matter has been politicised by the government to malign the image of the JMM chief. Sinha further said the Congress will fight the coming Assembly election in alliance with the JMM.

Left salvo at BJP

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Council of Communist Party of India has blamed the BJP for the current state of Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC).

In a press release on Wednesday, CPI state secretariat member Khagendra Thakur said the decision to close down HEC was taken when the NDA government was in power in the Centre. He said the employees of HEC have been sincere workers and produced quality products even under adverse circumstances.

August date for fish seminar

Jamshedpur: The zoology department of Jamshedpur Co-operative College will organise a seminar, “Fishes and Their Environment”, at XLRI auditorium on August 9 and August 10. Scientists, teachers and research scholars of various states will participate in the function.

A.K. Sinha, head of the department, said discussions will held on the harmful effects of industrial pollution on fishes. He said the delegates will come up with ways to control pollution and clean rivers.

Ajsu convention

Jamshedpur: All Jharkhand Students’ Union (Ajsu) will organise its two-day annual convention in the steel city on August 7 and August 8. Experts on the Jharkhand movement will participate in the convention. Surya Singh Besra, founder of Ajsu, said Bir Bharat Talwar, reader at Jawaharlal Nehru University, will be the chief guest. Besra said during the convention strategies will be framed to work for the development of Adivasis in the state.

Accupressure

Jamshedpur: The Ranchi-based accupressure group, “Sanjeevani”, will organise a free treatment and training camp in the steel city from July 26 to July 30. The camp will be held at Tulsi Bhawan in Bistupur. Ramawatar Mawandia, proprietor of the group, said patients will be treated through the quantum technique, a new development in the field of accupressure.

He said patients who participate in the camp will get an opportunity to learn accupressure. The camp is being jointly organised by Singhbhum Jila Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Marwari Yuva Manch and Rajasthan Yuvak Mandal.

Media training

Jamshedpur: A training institute in the field of television and broadcasting, Broadcast Industrial Training Centre will open a centre in the city on Thursday.

Sanjay Sahu, director of the centre, said the institute will provide training in the field of video editing, news reading and public relation. He said experts in the field of media will train the candidates.

Building repair

Ranchi: Secretary of the department of building constructions D.K.Tiwary, along with the newly-appointed director-general of police Shivaji Mahan Cairae, on Wednesday decided to immediately repair various dilapidated police buildings in the state. The officials recently visited the police office located in Rani Kothi.

Tribes’ list

Ranchi: Ten tribes have been included in the list of scheduled tribes after the state’s formation. Five have been recommended for inclusion in the scheduled tribes list.

One caste has been recommended for inclusion in the scheduled caste category. The tribes recommended for recognition as scheduled tribes, include Agaria, Delki Kharia, Doodh Kharia, Hill Kharia, Nagesia, Kanwarbhag Paharia, Pathar and Kawar Kol.

Meeting

Ranchi: The department of building constructions will convene a meeting to decide the fate of 80 workers who have been working as daily labourers.

The department has plans to regularise their services. The labourers have been demanding regularisation of their services for many years.

The Jamshedpur unit of State Bank of India Officers’ Association on Wednesday organised a blood donation camp at its Bistupur branch. The camp was organised in the memory of the association leaders who died in a plane crash in Patna in 2000.
