Manipur outrage

New Delhi, July 17: The custody death in Manipur that jolted a group of women to stage a naked protest will reach the Supreme Court and the National Human Rights Commission on the basis of a front-page report in The Telegraph.

Manish Goswami, an advocate in the Supreme Court, said two family members of Thangjam Manorama, who died after being picked up last Sunday, will be parties to the petitions that will be moved on Monday.

Goswami added that “the lead story of The Telegraph on July 16 is taken as the basis for the entire petition”.

Protests against the death kept Manipur turbulent for the third day today. Militants also struck last night, killing a CRPF jawan.
