Ban, fines on under-21 offenders

The IFA on Thursday slapped punishments on four Bengal players — Amjad Ali, Sainik Dey, Syed Rahim Nabi and Madhab Das — for assaulting referee A. Siddiqui during the under-21 junior national final in Jamalpur last month.

IFA secretary Subrata Datta announced after the disciplinary committee’s meeting that Nabi, Madhab and Sainik have been suspended for two matches and fined Rs 15,000 each.

Amjad, who has been suspended by the AIFF till the final disposal of the case, was also fined Rs 15,000 and ordered to pay up within 15 days.

Both the coach and manager’s reports pulled up the erring players after Bengal lost the final 1-4.

Bhaichung trains at EB

Bhaichung Bhutia on Thursday practised with the East Bengal team for the first time this new season. “Practising doesn’t mean that I’m signing for them (East Bengal)… I haven’t made up my mind yet,” Bhutia said after his workout. The India captain is likely to appear for trials at a Cyprus club later this month.
