Building rules

Calcutta, July 7: The state government today said it would not interfere in constructions on land belonging to closed or sick companies so long as they followed the law.

Industries minister Nirupam Sen said the government’s job would be “confined to obtaining proper clearances for the sale” of land, “overseeing liquidation of workers’ dues from the sale proceeds” and ensuring transparent handover of the plots to their new owners.

The announcement comes in the wake of Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamul Congress threatening to kick up a row over workers going without wages in several housing projects.
