Calcutta, June 8: The government today asked the passport office to be more vigilant against Bangladeshi infiltration.
The chief minister asked regional passport officer and director, branch secretariat, external affairs, M.K. Singh to heighten vigil while issuing passports.
Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had raised the issue during talks with Bangladesh foreign minister M. Morshed Khan, who was here last week. However, Khan had denied knowledge of any infiltration from Bangladesh.
Citing instances of Bangladeshis crossing over and staying back, Bhattacharjee expressed concern. A government official said: “The passport office has been asked to crackdown on suspected passport forgery.”
