British mission in Dhaka closed

Dhaka, May 22 (Reuters): The British High Commission in Bangladesh will remain shut to the public indefinitely after the ambassador was injured in a bomb blast which killed three people, an embassy official said today.

British high commissioner Anwar Choudhury was hit in the leg and his bodyguard killed when the bomb went off as he took part in Friday prayers at a Muslim shrine in the northeastern city of Sylhet.

“The British High Commission will remain closed to the public from today for an indefinite period,” Milie Sen Gupta, head of the commission’s political section said today. Choudhury was taken to a military hospital after the blast which injured more than 60 people.
