Another Cong leader killed

Jaipur, May 4 (PTI): Former Union minister and working president of the Rajasthan PCC Abrar Ahmed was killed in a road accident in Rajasthan’s Tonk district early today.

The car carrying Ahmed collided with a truck, killing the 48-year-old Congress leader along with his driver and gunman on the spot, police said.

A sitting Rajya Sabha member, Ahmed was appointed PCC working president only last month. He was on his way to Jhalawar from Jaipur to campaign when the mishap occurred near Deoli town around 4 am.

The incident comes less than a month after former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi suffered severe spinal injury when his car crashed into a tree while he was on the campaign trail.

Ahmed had served as Union minister in the P.V. Narasimha Rao government in 1993. He was first elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1988 and again in 2002.

He leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter.
