Soft drink norms revision

New Delhi (PTI): The Bureau of Indian Standards has favoured a revision of standards for soft drinks, including those for the water used in these beverages, the caffeine content and microbiological elements and toxins.

“We have forwarded our suggestions to the health ministry, recommending that the standard for bottled drinking water be used for water used in the manufacture of soft drinks,” said director-general, BIS, Nirmal Singh.

Punjab HC

Chandigarh (PTI): All 21 judges of Punjab and Haryana High Court except one who is abroad reported for duty on Tuesday, resolving differences with Chief Justice B.K. Roy after some Supreme Court judges intervened. The judges had gone on mass casual leave after Roy sought an explanation from two of his colleagues about their membership of a club against which a case is pending in the high court.

Jogi stable

Mumbai (PTI): Ajit Jogi, who developed chest congestion on Friday after a spine surgery, is “stable and improving”, according to his neurosurgeon, Dr C.E. Deopujari. Jogi was hurt in an accident on April 11.

Priest held

Kancheepuram (PTI): A Christian priest was arrested at Thaiyur on Monday in connection with the death of a 12-year-old boy. Thavasudhan had allegedly assaulted the boy for directing devotees to another prayer house.

Blaze kills 3

Dehradun (PTI):A middle-aged man and his two daughters were charred to death in the Kalagarh tiger reserve on Monday as the blaze in the hills of Uttaranchal spread, reports said.
