Kathmandu, April 14 (Reuters): Nepal’s King Gyanendra faced the strongest protests against his rule yet today as thousands of students and activists took to the streets of Kathmandu in defiance of a ban on public meetings of five or more people.

Student groups aligned to political parties held rallies and shouted slogans against the king.
