Tax notice served on TCS

Mumbai, April 6: The income tax department has served a notice on Tata Sons, the holding company of Tata Consultancy Services, to pay additional tax of close to Rs 100 crore on the ground that TCS was not eligible for certain tax benefits availed by it. Officials said the company would seek a reassessment of the demand made by the department. Last week, Wipro received notices to pay Rs 261 crore.

Tata trucks

Moscow, April 6: Tata Motors has started assembling around 400 trucks of 2.8 and 3.8 tons capacity using component kits from India at the Amur plant in Novouralsk town in the Ural mountains.

Rupee softens

Mumbai, April 6: The rupee closed at 43.74 against the dollar, down six paise from Monday’s close of 43.68.

Mobile users

New Delhi, April 6: The mobile phone user base in the country has crossed 33 million in March. Reliance topped the list with over 7.2 million users followed by Bharti with 6.5 million.

HPL payout

Calcutta, April 6: Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd has said it will pay interest for January-March, a release said. This is in response to an order issued by the debt recovery tribunal restraining the company from selling and transferring specified properties for its failure to pay around Rs 16 crore of interest to Unit Trust on debentures issued.
