Saturday Club to host Futures meet
The Saturday Club will host its maiden international tennis meet, the ONGC ITF men’s Futures championship, from Monday. Bulgarian Todor Enev (world No. 298) is the highest ranked player in the draw. The Indian challenge will be spearheaded by Davis Cupper Rohan Bopanna (380). The other Indians to get in directly into the main draw are Sunil Kumar Sipaeya, Vijay Kannan, Mustafa Ghouse, Vinod Sridhar and Vishal Uppal.
Eight qualifiers will come through the qualifying rounds to be held over the weekend and four wild cards will complete the field. The winner stands to earn $1,300 and 12 ATP points. The final, originally scheduled on March 13, has been pushed back by a day to avoid a clash with the first India versus Pakistan ODI, informed tournament director Jaidip Mukerjea. The Bengal Tennis Association (BTA) is trying to get a second ITF meet in the city in May. Last March, the newly built BTA Complex had hosted one as its inaugural event.
