New Delhi: India began their campaign on an impressive note, blanking Iran 5-0 in their opening group A tie of the Thomas Cup (preliminaries) Asian Zone in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
Strong contenders South Korea thrashed Macau 5-0 in the other group A match. Top-ranked Indian Abhinn Shyam Gupta gave the team a confident start, beating Ali Shah Hoseini 15-3, 15-4 in just half an hour. Markose Bristow and Rupesh Kumar then extended the margin with a 15-11, 15-9 win over Hoseini and Yolamrezah Bayery in the doubles.
Chetan Anand put the result beyond doubt, taking just 20 minutes to send Arash Abdolmohamadian packing 15-5, 15-1.
