Inflation rate dips to 5.8%

New Delhi, Feb. 13: Declining prices of fruits, vegetables, eggs and some of the edible oils brought the rate of inflation down to 5.8 per cent after it remained at over 6 per cent for the past few weeks. The drop in inflation rate is in keeping with the expectations of the Reserve Bank of India and the Centre. The point-to-point wholesale price index inflation fell by 0.32 per cent from the previous week’s 6.12 per cent, even as heavy-weighted manufactured items, including food products and textiles, became costlier.

A-I profit

Mumbai, Feb. 13: After witnessing a loss-making first half, Air-India (A-I) has posted a net profit of Rs 10-12 crore for the nine months ended December 31, 2003, CMD V. Thulasidas said while launching the Ahmedabad-London flight.

Jyoti contract

Mumbai, Feb. 13: Jyoti Structures Ltd has secured a Rs 110-crore order from the West Bengal State Electricity Board to set up a 400-KV double-circuit transmission line.

Zydus pact

New Delhi, Feb. 13: Zydus Cadila Healthcare today said it has struck a 10-year strategic deal with Boehringer Ingelheim India to continue manufacturing and marketing the latter’s products here.

Auto sales

New Delhi, Feb. 13: Car manufacturers have recorded a whopping 31.1 per cent rise in sales in January 2004. The sales jumped to 71,875 units from 54,813 units in January 2003, according to the data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.
