Amitava century in East Bengal win

Amitava Chakraborty’s unbeaten 102 helped East Bengal cruise to a nine-wicket win against High Court in the CAB first division league match on Sunday. Arindam Das chipped with 92.

Bengal in final

The Bengal under-17 team moved into the final of the Vijay Merchant Trophy by virtue of a 93-run first innings lead against Punjab in the semi-finals in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.

According to information received here, Punjab were all out for 267 in their first innings on the final day, with Amit Banerjee taking three wickets. Sourav Roy and Bablu Goswami got two each.

Bajpai qualifies

Manu Bajpai of India qualified for the main draw of the boys’ singles in the ONGC ITF junior tennis meet on Sunday. Joining him are Talgat Baygulov of Uzbekistan, Alexey Tysrenov of Russia and Lior Barbash of Israel. In the girls’ section, the Indians to make the main draw are Asha Nanda Kumar, Sanjana Kapur and Prerna Mythri.

Title for Laltu

Laltu Chatterjee won the state chess meet with nine points at the Khudiram Anushilan Kendra on Sunday. Runner-up Shankar Roy also finished on nine, but Laltu prevailed with a better progressive score.
