India to participate in 5-nation meet

Calcutta: The India under-20 football team will take part in a five-nation tournament in Thailand starting February 3. The tournament, named the BIMST-EC Cup coincides with the economic forum meet of the Asian and South East Asian countries, scheduled to take place at the same time.

Teams other than India and Thailand taking part in the meet are Bangladesh, Myanmar and Sri Lanka.

Maurice Alfonso will be the coach of the Indian team while Balan will assist him. Virender Singh will be the goalkeeping coach.

IFA secretary Subrata Dutta has been selected the manager.

The team will play a practice match against Vasco Sports Club on Monday.

Md. Sporting plea

Mohammedan Sporting have requested their technical director P.K. Banerjee to continue for the rest of the National Football League.

P.K.ís six-month contract finished in January and the former India coach asked for a release. According to club secretary Sultan Ahmed, P.K. has asked for time before giving a final decision.
