Bengal U-17 pile up 275/5

The Bengal under-17 team piled up a commanding 275 for five at stumps on Day I of their Vijay Merchant Trophy semi-final match against Punjab in Vizag on Friday. According to information received here, Debabrata Das (144 n.o.) and Debopam Biswas (84) were the major stars.

Ranjan in final

Ranjan Prasad and Soumit Dey made the boys’ under-14 final of the Valvoline JMTA all India junior tennis meet Friday. While Prasad beat Bhanu Prakash 6-4, 6-1, Dey downed Bibaswan Deb 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Meanwhile, Danielle Jones and Treta Bhattacharya made the girls’ under-14 final beating Mokshada Jain and Richa Valecha.

OTHER FINALISTS

Boys’ U-12: Prem Singh, Ayush Bajoria. Girls’ U-12: Snigdha Tyagi.

Cricket meet

Birla High School will take on M.P. Birla in the final of the Leprosy Mission organised cricket tournament. In the semi-finals Friday, Birla High beat St Thomas, Howrah while M.P. Birla downed St. James’.

BRC triumph

Bengal Rowing Club A beat Calcutta Rowing Club B in the men’s four event of the ARAE rowing championship being held at Rabindra Sarobar on Friday.

In the women’s four event, Lake Club beat BRC abd Orissa downed COEP.

TODAY IN SPORT

ROWING: ARAE meet at the Rabindra Sarobar from 8:30 am.

TENNIS: Valvoline JMTA meet finals at the academy premises from 12 noon.
