Bar off on Senbo work

The police on Friday asked the area’s residents not to obstruct the work of private construction company Senbo, carrying out a Metro Railway extension project at Baishnabghata, on the southern fringes of the city.

Sanjoy Das, 13, had been crushed to death and another teenager, Somnath Mondal, injured by a Senbo truck at Baishnabghata on Thursday. A mob then stormed the Senbo local office and set it ablaze. It also threatened not to allow Senbo to carry on with the project. The truck driver is absconding.

The officer-in-charge of Jadavpur police station said Senbo officials had promised to ensure that such mishaps did not recur. Senbo director Kingshuk Sengupta said the company will pay for the treatment of Somnath, now in a nursing home, and compensate Sanjoy’s family.
