Calcutta, Jan. 1: A mob went on the rampage after a teenager returning from a picnic was run over by a truck belonging to a construction company carrying out Metro expansion work near the southern end of the EM Bypass.

A 100-strong mob stormed the site office of Senbo after the truck knocked Sanjoy Das, 13, off his bicycle and ran him over near his house in Birji, near Garia. His friend Somnath was admitted to a hospital.

The mob ransacked the storeroom, beat up 25 labourers before setting fire to the office. Three trucks, two cranes, a payloader and ground-leveller were damaged, resulting in a loss of Rs 1 crore.
