I had deposited two UGS-2000 certificates (numbers 942100389275 and UG91211 0302155) amounting to 250 units along with the death certificate of my father-in-law Hare Krishna Choudhuri at the office of the Unit Trust of India, City Centre, Durgapur on January 16, 2001. I am the only claimant (anyone/ survivor) of the scheme. Till date, however, I have not received the maturity amount in spite of repeated requests and visits to the office. What can I do now?

Parul Choudhuri,
Qtrs no. Type IV/37,

Prabir Basu of Consumers Unity and Guidance Forum advises:

You have not stated whether or not the UGS certificates were purchased jointly in the names of Hare Krishna Choudhuri and Parul Choudhuri. You have also not stated whether or not you have been chosen the nominee in the said certificates. In the absence of such details, I cannot advise you to approach the consumer fora. If the question raised here is not answered, then even the Unit Trust of India cannot make payment to you unless you obtain a succession certificate from the appropriate court of law. It is advisable that you get in touch with the relationship manager of the company at Financial Centre, 29, .S. Road, Calcutta 700 001 and seek his guidance.
