Calcutta, Dec. 27: Six days after supporters of the CPM’s women’s wing were looted and molested in Joynagar, South 24-Pargans, the leaders took to the streets.

A 12-hour bandh had been observed in Joynagar on Monday. Today, the Ganatantrik Mahila Samiti held a protest meeting in front of the Metro cinema. Sources said the district unit of the party has convinced the state leaders that “a vigorous movement has to be lined up to protest such a heinous act”.

Six people have been arrested in connection with the incident; one of them is a CPM supporter.
