Job racket shroud on trader suicide

Amal Roy, 59, a resident of Bosunagar in Madhyamgram, committed suicide on Saturday evening by hanging himself from the ceiling of his bathroom. A suicide note was found stating that Roy’s business partner, Dipak Das, had cheated him of several lakhs, forcing him to end his life. But police are probing other angles as well as the Central Bureau of Investigation had interrogated Roy a couple of days ago on suspicion that he had links with a nationwide job racket, said superintendent of police, North 24-Parganas, Basudeb Bag. Those involved in the racket would dupe unemployed youths by promising them jobs.

Duo held with heroin, hooch

Two youths, Raju and Ganesh, were picked up from Dakshindari in the Lake Town police station area on Sunday evening for possessing and selling illicit liquor and heroin. Local residents alerted the police when the duo picked a fight on the road over distribution of profit from the sale.

Physiotherapy plea

The State Government Physiotherapists Association on Sunday demanded the formation of a council of physiotherapists and urged health minister Surjya Kanta Mishra to initiate steps to introduce a post-graduate course in physiotherapy.

Fisheries gadget

The state fisheries department installed an upgraded machine at Captain Bheri near the EM Bypass on Saturday to prepare various fish items.
