Jungle swoop on MCC

Dhanbad, Dec. 20: Police claimed to have destroyed five bunkers of the Maoists Communist Centre in the afternoon swoop at forests in Tundi and Peertand in the Dhanbad-Giridih region, reports our correspondent.

The police said they recovered seven detonators, Naxalite literature, wristwatches and audio-cassettes from the rebel hideouts. A camera, Rs 15,000 in cash and police uniforms were also recovered from the bunkers, the police claimed.

The offensive code-named Operation Jungle follows the arrest of two key rebels, Laxman Manjhi and Manoj Manjhi, yesterday by the Tundi police. The rebels were nabbed when they were trying to abduct the driver of a jeep.

Tundi and its adjacent Peertand area was once considered a stronghold of the extremist outfit. The police said after the combing operations, launched by the Giridih police in the Parasnath Hills a Jain pilgrim centre the outlaws had retreated to Peertand and Tundi areas through the dense forests.
