Powell surgery successful

Washington, Dec. 15 (Reuters): US secretary of state Colin Powell’s surgery for prostate cancer went well today and he is expected to make a full recovery, the US state department said.

“I am happy to report that he is out of surgery, that everything went fine,” state department spokesman Richard Boucher told reporters, saying Powell’s doctors said he had a “localised” prostate cancer.

“There (are) no complications and a full recovery is expected.”

Powell, 66, is expected to be on a reduced schedule while he recovers from the operation, a senior state department official said.
