LECTURE

December 10 at the Conference Hall, Academy of Fine Arts; 10.30 am - 2.30 pm: And Social Justice for All: Social Rights of Urban Homeless Mentally Ill Persons — a panel discussion on World Human Rights Day, organised by Anjali and Action-Aid. Speakers include psychiatrists, government officials, the police and the media. Keynote address: Harsh Mander. December 10 at the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Vivekananda Hall; 6.15 pm: Swami Prabhananda will speak on Sri Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita.

EXHIBITION

Till December 10 at Swabhumi; 10 am - 8 pm: An exhibition of Pashmina Shawls made by Le Pashmina, Alps Industries Ltd. Digitally produced from the works of Rabindranath Tagore, G.R. Santosh, Jamini Roy, Gopal Ghosh and Devyani Krishna, and embellished and embroided by designers Rohit Bal, Hemant Trivedi, Manoviraj Khosla, Neeta Lulla, MonaPali and Reetika. Till December 11 at Swabhumi; 6 pm: NEXPO — an exhibition-cum-sale of a wide range of products from the north-eastern states of India. Till December 14 at Oxford Bookstore, 17 Park Street; 10 am - 8 pm: An exhibition of contemporary crystal forms created by Srila Mookherjee. Till December 16 at Calcutta Maidan (opp. Birla Planetarium); 2 pm - 8 pm (12 noon - 8 pm on Saturdays and Sundays): The annual Lexpo XXVIII, hosted by Indian Leather Technologists’ Association.

MUSIC

December 11 at The Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Vivekananda Hall, Gol Park; 6 pm: MantraKeyboard Symphony, an electronic instrumental orchestra on devotional and patriotic songs by 20 synthesizer students of Ajit Ghosh. Programme concept: Robin Paul; orchestra designed by V. Balsara. December 12 at Kala Mandir; 5.30 pm: Gokul Nag Memorial Foundation presents Moitree Dhwani featuring Megan Black (Kathak), Ross Kent (sarod) and Rajan and Sajan Mishra (vocal).

MIME

Till December 10 at Jogesh Mime Academy, Kalighat Park; 6 pm: Jogesh Mime Academy hosts its 25th mime festival. Also, workshop by Badal Sircar and Bidyut Dutta.

DANCE & MUSIC

Till December 14 at Rabindra Sadan; 6 pm:The line-up for today’s programme at the Uday Shankar Nrityotsav 2003, organised by West Bengal State Music Academy and West Bengal Dance Group Federation: Debapriya Mukherjee (Kathakali), Bappa Chatterjee (creative dance) and Anandachandrika (direction: Amita Dutt). December 11 at Sisir Mancha; 6.30 pm: Nrittakshetra presents Nikkan, a solo Bharata Natyam recital, and Atma - The Soul, a choreographic homage to Tamil poet Subramania Bharathi on his 121st birth aniversary. Performed and choreographed by Anasuya Banerjee. December 12 at Srijan rooftop; 6 pm: An evening of Indian music and dance featuring Sharmila Mukherjee (Odissi), Jita RoyChowdhury (Bharata Natyam) and Purbayan Chatterjee (sitar). December 12 at the Sandre Hall, The Calcutta School of Music, 6.30 pm: Kishore Chatterjee will present a programme on Carl Maria von Weber. December 13 at Uttam Mancha; 6 pm: Nirmala Mishra will be conferred the 14th Kamala Devi Rai Memorial Award by Sourav. She will present a solo recital of Bengali songs. December 13 at Vidya Mandir; 6 pm: Kashi Swar Ganga Samman Samaroh features Sanju Sahai (tabla solo), Ritesh-Rjnish Mishra (vocal), Anindo Chaterjee (tabla) and Sanatan Goswami (harmonium), Birju Maharaj and Deepak Maharaj (Kathak) and Kumar Bose (tabla).
