Gold touches new high

Mumbai, Dec. 6: Gold ended at Rs 6,090, peaking at its highest-ever closing level today following heavy stockists’ buying reflecting steeply high price trends in overseas centres. Though the metal had touched an all-time high of Rs 6,100 in early trade today, it failed to maintain the same price level due to late profitselling.

Forex reserves

Mumbai, Dec. 6: India’s foreign exchange reserves surged ahead by $698 million to race past the $96 billion mark for the week ended November 28, inching towards the $100 billion figure. The country’s foreign exchange reserves increased to $96,071 million, despite the government prepaying foreign loans aggregating $1.4 billion.

Vijaya Bank

Mumbai, Dec. 6: Vijaya Bank plans to amalgamate its subsidiary Vibank Housing Finance with itself and has got the National Housing Bank’s approval for the move.

Bengal Chem

Calcutta, Dec. 6: Bengal Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals has seen a 600 per cent rise in productivity this year. The company has earned a net profit of Rs 2.5 crore in 2002-03.
