Death after quack pill

Burdwan, Dec. 4: A 13-year-old girl died here last evening after a quack administered a concoction to force an abortion.

Phulmala Basu went to police after her daughter had died at Sununtu village in Purbasthali, 230 km from Calcutta.

Ram Gopal Bhattacharya, an employee of a rural bank at Nabadwip where Phulmala is a Group-D staff, was arrested. The quack, Dulal Debnath, is absconding. Kabita often accompanied her mother to work. The police said: “Post-mortem revealed she was carrying for nine months and died of excessive bleeding.”
