Parnita in lead

Parnita Grewal leads the standings after the second day of the Lipton East India ladies’ golf meet. Grewal had a gross 72 on Wednesday for a two-day total of 145. Bhavna Shetty is second with 146 gross, followed by Manavi Halwasiya (147).

The Rasoi Cup is also a closely-fought affair, Bhavna leading with 136 nett followed by Manavi. Shruti Naik leads the Silver division with a gross score of 168, followed by Sonia Barman (172). In the Bronze division, Dr Rashmi Dhaon (185) is ahead of Preeti Mehta.

Ugwo release

Mohammedan Sporting will release Nigerian midfielder John Ugwo soon. The player took part in Friday’s NFL opener against Mohun Bagan and has sustained a knee injury which requires surgery. Club officials have decided to dispense with him after knowing this.

Schools soccer

Abhijit Patra scored twice as Gondalpara Rabindra Sikhayatan beat Konnagar High School 2-0 in the Bankim Cup match at the Baidyabati B.S. Park/Bandhab Samiti ground on Wednesday.

The four seeded boys’ teams — La Martiniere, Calcutta Boys’, St James’ and St Xavier’s — all booked semi-final places in the 7th inter-school tennis meet at the ITA courts on Wednesday.

Bengal bundled out Sikkim for 40 in their second innings to force an innings and 235-run victory in the Vijay Merchant Trophy (under-17).
