Safi replaces Shabbir

Middle-order batsman Safi Ahmed has replaced Shabbir Ali in the 14-man squad for the forthcoming Ranji Trophy match against Assam at the Eden Gardens from Monday.

It was learnt that Bengal will go in with three spinners — Sourashish Lahiri, Utpal Chatterjee and Shib Sagar Singh for the game.

Ritwick in quarters

Ritwick Bhattacharya, Tahil Vohra, Gaurav Nandrajog and Saurav Ghosal made it to the semi-finals of the national squash championships at the Calcutta Racket Club on Friday.

While Ritwick beat Vikas Jangra 9-5, 9-0, 9-2, Vohra downed Dhiraj Singh 9-2, 9-7, 2-9, 9-3 in the quarter finals. In the other last-eight matches, Nandrajog downed Dalip Tripathi 9-0, 10-9, 9-7 and Saurav thrashed Balamurgan 9-7, 9-4, 9-2.

Floodlit tennis

The Saturday Club hardcourt floodlit tennis tournament will start today. Six hundred players will take part in the meet, the final being slated for December 20.
