Bengal take lead

Bengal took a 168-run first innings lead on Day II the Polly Umrigar Trophy match at the Deshabandu Park on Sunday.

After restricting Orissa for 228 on Day I, Joydeep Roy’s 132 helped Bengal to 396 at stumps.

State basketball

The Burra Bazar Yubak Sangha women reached the semi-finals of the senior state basketball championship, beating Calcutta Good Counsel 31-21. In the other semi-final, Chhatra Samity beat Rangers 65-53.

Squash meet

Bengal had a torrid time on the opening day of the Inter-state squash championship at the Calcutta Racket Club on Sunday.

They lost both their matches by large margins, losing 1-4 to traditional powerhouse Services in Pool A and 0-5 to Maharashtra in Pool B.
