ANC blow

Durban, Nov. 23 (PTI): South Africa’s ruling African National Congress has removed the name of Mac Maharaj, one of the country’s most prominent leaders of Indian origin and a former minister, from its list of candidates for next year’s general elections.

Maharaj, a prominent member of the ANC Revolutionary Council before 1994, was nominated by several ANC branches across the country. But the party’s list conference, being attended by about 300 leaders in Johannesburg, removed his name without any explanation.
