Film fest on human rights

The US consulate-general will present the first Human Rights Watch International Film Festival at the American Center from Monday. During the two-day festival, being held in collaboration with the International Foundation for Crime Prevention and Victim Care, Chennai, discussions on cinema-related topics have also been organised.

On Monday, Prof Sanjoy Mukherjee, head of the department of film studies, Jadavpur University, will speak on ‘Film as a Medium of Social Change’. An award-winning Palestinian romantic film, Rana’s Wedding, will be screened.

Film-maker Anindita Sarbadhicary will talk about ‘Film-maker as an Activist/Activist as a Film-maker’ on Tuesday afternoon. Two documentary films, focussing on socio-political situations, Pinochet's Children from Germany and War Takes, a Colombia-England joint production, will be shown.
