Afridi to lead Pak A

Islamabad: Hard-hitting opener Shahid Afridi has been named captain of the Pakistan A team for the triangular tournament in India next month.

Afridi played the last of his 176 ODIs against India in this year’s World Cup before being dropped because of poor form. Afridi has a strike rate of over 100 in ODIs, but averages just 23.70 for his 3,887 runs.

Besides Pakistan, A teams from India and Sri Lanka will take part in the tournament to be held in Calcutta from December 13 to 21.

The Pakistan squad includes several other internationals — Mohammed Hafeez, Salman Butt, Imran Nazir, Faisal Iqbal and Umar Gul.
