Bloodspill after looting spree

Ghatal (West Midnapore), Nov. 18: A man was killed and his nephews injured when dacoits here went on the rampage and plundered at least a dozen houses in two-and-a-half hours last night.

Police said the dacoits entered the house of Dhiraj Bag at Ghola near Chandrakona, 150 km from Calcutta, after looting 13 houses. “They dragged Bag out, took him to a field and shot him.”

The police suspect Bag, 35, was killed because he had identified some of the miscreants. Bag’s nephews were shot at when they tried to rescue their father.
