Kozhikode, Nov. 15 (PTI): Top seed Koneru Humpy continued her remarkable run to remain sole leader in the national women’ A chess championship here. In the process, she created a national record by winning 11 consecutive rounds.
Ironically, the reigning Asian women’s champion beat Bhagyashree Thipsay in the 10th round to rewrite the latter’s record. Bhagyashree had won nine out of nine in the Jalandhar national women’s meet in 1986.
Humpy extended her streak to 11 wins later in the day when she outwitted Anupama Gokhale.
S. Vijayalakshmi was second with 10 points and Nisha Mohota third with 7.5. Mohota drew both her matches today — with Tania Sachdev in the 10th and then with Kruttika Nadig. Kruttika (6), earned an IWM norm today following her win over S. Sangeetha and draw with Mohota.
