Calcutta, Nov. 14: The high court today asked the government to attach the salary of a PWD chief engineer who did not appear before it twice in a case on the condition of GT Road.
The court had asked PWD’s Howrah division chief engineer to appear in person while hearing a case filed by a resident, Jaswant Rakshit, alleging that the road between Howrah and Serampore in Hooghly was in bad shape and accidents could occur any moment. The court appointed a special officer, who said the allegations were true. The chiefs of Konnagar, Bally and Uttarpara municipalities, who had also been asked to appear, did so.
The judge today issued a suo motu contempt rule and said the engineer’s salary will remain attached “till further orders”.
