Telgi stink in Bihar bust

Patna, Nov. 10: Bihar police are trying to find if there is a link between a fake stamp paper gang they busted here yesterday and the wider racket of Abdul Karim Telgi.

Patna City superintendent of police .. Bhaskar today said a link between the Bihar gang and Telgi could not be ruled out. “We are sending our officers to Mumbai and investigating and working to find if there is any possible link,” he said.

The police last night arrested Vinod Sharma, alias Pintu, in front of Beur jail and, on the basis of his statement, raided several of the interstate gang’s hideouts in Patna and its outskirts. The gang also dealt in fake foreign currency notes.

The raids threw up a large number of fake stamp papers and notes of the US, Brazil and Kuwait worth Rs 20 lakh, a .9 mm pistol and some incriminating papers.

A diary that was seized contained the names of various agents in Maharashtra, Mumbai, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Chennai.

Among the addresses listed were those of Chatan Pandit of Meera Road in Thane and Lala Bhai Vrijwasi of Mumbai. They were allegedly using the fake currencies to also dupe foreign clients.
