Death in air-tanker explosion

A youth was killed when an air-tanker exploded on Friday night at a motor car repairing garage at Karaya in south Calcutta. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Asraf, a garage employee. According to police, Asraf was checking the tanker’s air pressure when it burst, blowing off part of his left leg and lower abdomen. On hearing the report, other employees ran away. When they returned, they found Asraf’s mutilated body. He was taken to National Medical College and Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said the tanker was “too old”.

Kasba water

Drinking water will not be scarce in Kasba in the near future with the installation of the semi-underground-reservoir-cum booster pumping station by the Calcutta Municipal Corporation, mayor Subrata Mukherjee said on Saturday. Work on the Rs 18-crore project started after the foundation stone was laid by Mamata Banerjee.

nDisruptive rallies:Two processions on the occasion of Mahabir Jayanti passed through city streets on Saturday. Traffic movement was partially hit on C R Avenue, Beadon Street and Rabindra Sarani.
