A lifeline for Basudeb

The Mohun Bagan team management has had a change of heart vis-à-vis Basudeb Mondal, who was ignored for the National Football League a couple of days ago. The experienced midfielder’s performance will be monitored over two weeks before a decision is taken. In a meeting of the coaches and club officials, it was decided that if Mondal is up to the mark during the NFL preparation, he may be retained.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that Bagan are free to recruit foreign players, according to indications from the Fifa. While they signed a contract with Zimbabwean David on Thursday, two Brazilians — Edu and Leonardo — will arrive on November 15 for trials. If both are selected, then Marcos Parreira will be released before the NFL.
